  • New York, the American dream

“Any designer dreams about seeing their creations on the New York catwalks! The New York 2016 Fashion Week’s doors opened to me. It was dream for me and it came true. The dream of many French people.

Everything started in August 2016. I received a message on Messenger from a woman in New York who told me she fell for my creations. She then asked me to come to present my creations for the opening show of the haute couture (high couture) during her event on 12 September 2016 in New York. This was the beginning a great adventure and a beautiful opportunity which enabled me to take a step abroad only one year after the release of my first hair couture creation. Therefore, I had the opportunity to dress a beautiful singer and models.

  • People loved my creations. I couldn't believe it. I receive the Award du meilleur coiffeur (award for the best hairdresser) 2016. It was a very magical moment.

During my stay, I made the most of it to observe the American behaviors and their lifestyle. It is very enriching to observe the current trends for the business. Thus, I noticed that few Afro-American women accept their natural hair contrary to what is shown in the social networks or the magazines. They give us the impression that these women are proud to show their natural assets and accept their frizzy hair when in fact it doesn’t match the reality. I noticed that in the New York suburb like Brooklyn and others, these women are part of the Nappy networks.

I came with a voluminous afro hairstyle thinking that the big New York names would not be choked because they can see this kind of hairstyle every day. But I was surprised that everybody was actually impressed. They took pictures of me, they complimented me . I was even asked the name of this hairstyle. Even the afro Americans reacted this way! I then though that there was still a lot to do to highlight diversity and to break these beauty diktats with more afro hairstyles. I had been working for several months on my future collection called Big Hair World. I presented some of my creations for the Fashion Week and other models will soon be available.

    Milan, the place to be

The New York Fashion Week was already over and I was already contacted to participate to the Milan Fashion Week! I had not yet regained my composure that I fled again this time to Italy. A real success. In one year and a half, my creations were seen abroad. It is a big turning point in my professional life, a new chapter of life. It is the proof that one must go far to better come back regardless of the country. One is worth it only when one work travels. “
