Portrait Bruno Estatoff : hairdresser, trainer and photographer
-
Christine Margossian
Bruno, you have a hairdresser trainer career, you are also a photographer, could you tell us more about these various talents ?
Indeed, I'm a hairdresser and a trainer. Regarding hairdressing, I created with my former partner, the salons Incognito in Lyon; a regional group composed of eight salons. Then I learned the art of teaching with Maurice Melone.
Then I worked with the group Jack Holt and in 2006 I created a concept of flexible salon which receives the clients during the week; on Monday and Tuesday the seminaries of Your Cut Academy and finally the space is always a photo studio.
I also worked with the house Eugène Perma as a member of the artistic team then hairdresser, Ambassador for l’Oréal Professionnel and H3 Expert. What is the specialty of your haircut trainings ?
I inform about the references and the history of Fashion. Indeed, when I use my collections for the seminaries, I explain how I create it, where come from the information, how to decipher it, to which kind of consumer it is for and which arguments to present in the salon.
I like the idea of being able to talk about the origin of each fashion wave.In short, my trainings are all inclusive culture fashion and technique. You put the culture fashion first and the technique in the second place, why ?
Indeed, I've always been conditioned by the importance of the detail of the Anglo-Saxon haircuts but today I can almost say that the final style is really the most important. The look and the client satisfaction are my priorities. I think that techniques which require at least 1h30 are not current anymore.
In fact, I work on a haircut like the photographer inside me, that is to say that I visualize the final ambiance. And how is your working vision expressed in the salon ?
The process of the diagnostic is essential of course but I insist on the performance of an hair stylist who know how to interpret the wave of each season for the sole purpose of satisfying his/her client contrary to a pure haircut technician.
We must remember that's the most important for a client leaving a salon is how she looks. In the other hand, as I was saying before, like any manager, profitability is one of my concerns. Regarding the team, I'm lucky to work with my family, my brother and my son. We have the same language and I'm glad to see them sharing my working philosophy. What about Bruno the photographer ?
From the vision to the creation of images, there's only one leap to take and I took it seven years ago with my own press file. Motivated with the publication of the latter, I kept that way and I was surprised when one day a client/ trainee asked me to shoot for his brand.
I accepted with butterflies in my stomach and with the nerves to be paid the first time for that job !
Just one precision, as a hairdresser, I've always had a vision of the shot, of a framing and I was sometimes frustrated to no obtain exactly what I see. Both skills create the link with my hairdressers clients.A message for your friends hairdresser as a conclusion ?
I would like that the hairdressers realize that they have a talent, they have to show it to their clients, their friends if they want to be considered as a hairdresser with a H and as fashion expert ! -
