  • Business woman and a sports fan : 6 Questions to Sylvie CUNY

  • Sylvie CUNY is at the head of two business in CHALON-SUR-SAONE. She tells us about the importance of the sports in her everyday life.

    Cyrille Hassam

  • Sylvie, you hold a series of sports competitions for several years. Apart from these trials, we can imagine the number of training hours. What makes you run like that?

Everything started three years ago when the Running Team Provalliance asked me to do a run. With their advice, I started training and I felt more and more comfortable. I have just run a marathon which came with an intensive training : six intense weeks, with 50 kilometers  on three weekly sessions, during which I had to reduce the time with my friends and everything that goes with…

What I can say is that all these efforts give me a deep feeling of well-being, a total feeling of freedom and accomplishment which stimulate my daily life.

  • Business woman and a sports fan : 6 Questions to Sylvie CUNY
  • It is often said that practicing a sport is like a healthy lifestyle. What do you think about it and what does sport give you in your daily life ?

I totally agree with the idea of healthy lifestyle. Of course, this requires a minimum of rigor but practicing a sport enables you to release stress and ‘recharge the batteries’. This is a real motor for mental health and it generates an incredible strength at work. Apart from that, sport helps to contribute significantly towards strengthening the muscle structure which is important in our profession.

Personally, my projects are flourishing very fast !

But I'm not practicing in excess because our profession demands to be in good physical shape. Too much exercise can tire the body in excess and you don’t want that.

Do you think there is a relation between sport and professional performance ?

Of course. Rigor required by sport is an asset to improve the performance in our profession. Even though we are artists with our scissors and our brushes, the management of business requires stepping back regarding things and knowing how to recharge batteries to make the right choices. Sport is good for that too.

Being capable of combining a life of business woman, just being a woman, a mum and an athlete seems like a miracle. At the time where so many political leaders say they lack of time to do things, how do you do it ?

Everything remains on a very good organization. Running early the morning or after work. This means going to bed quite early so you can sleep well and be in shape to be on all fronts : work at the salon, office, family and friends. Sport maybe very important but the balance remains also on the exit of your family and social life. Indeed, practicing sport forces me to organize myself better and made me discover that I actually could better use my time.

Would you recommend to practice sport to everybody ?

Yes because as Rabelais said, “a healthy spirit in a healthy body” ! For those of us who shuffle and tire a lot arms and our back, sport is the best way to prevent health problems. Furthermore, practicing a sport improves the blood circulation, common problem in our profession.

Paradoxically, practicing a sport reduces the feeling of fatigue in the end of our working day !

What is the best sports advice you can give to hairdressers ?

It is essential to feel well in your body and spend years without any health issues.

You should start progressively, for example walking or going to the gym. In short, doing exercises. And then, little by little, with softness, you will be more willing to do exercises on a regular basis.

Anyway, whatever sport you choose, its frequency or its intensity, one thing is certain, you must move !
