  • Secrets of how to maintain a hairstyle for longer

  • This morning you made the most beautiful bun in the world but as soon as you went out, badaboom! Your bun is already a mess, sound familiar? We feel your pain so here are some helpful tips to maintain your hairstyle all day long.

  • 1. Choose your hairspray wisely

If you want your French twist to hold you need hairspray. Forget about all these other products (wax, gel, etc) as these will leave your hair looking tired and dried out. To find the hairspray for you remember to follow these guidelines:

    - Thick hair will need strong fixing spray, fine hair will need a weaker hairspray.

    - To fix your blow-dry, remember to spray on flat brush with natural hair and brush your hair with it.

The result: long-lasting smoothing without cardboard effect. In terms of product, be careful with the sculpting textures and texturizing powder: they will play with your hair without actually fixing it (and, in some cases may even damage your hair).

  • 2. Accessories are your friends

Have a stock of hairpins: you can place them discreetly to fix a bun or flatten rebellious hairs. During the Cannes film festival, Dessange claimed that more than 300 hair sprays and 30 000 hairpins were utilized. You must use the hairpins correctly; the flat side must be at the opposite of the head and not the contrary. For a bun, don’t hesitate to use hair ties that you hide under a strand and donuts.

Finally, the headband will always provide you with an easy and long lasting hairstyle - fix your headband with hairpins.

  • 3. Add texture

Adding texture to your hair will not fix it like hairspray will, however the greater the volume and shape of your hair, the longer your hairstyle will last - those with straight and fine hair are well aware of this phenomenon.

This is why those with curly or frizzy hair will avoid straightening or combing before styling.

Those with straight hair can use a hair curler before styling.

  • 4. Embrace dirty hair !

The most glamorous advice ever right?

When your hair is clean, your scalp is drier. After a few days the sebum produced by the skull will supplement your hairspray and allow you to have longer lasting hairstyles.

However, your hair can’t be dirty every day- when it is clean you can use a water spray to lightly humidify the roots.
