  • David Bowie had just celebrated his 69 years with the release of his new album « Black Star » and a few days later, unfortunately, he left us, with an empty heart. This talented British artist with more than 40 years career behind him remains unconventional. What would be David Bowie without his character with numerous eccentric hairstyles ? Zoom on that lunar star.

  • This great chameleon artist was not only a pioneer in the pop folk but he was also the one who revolutionized the clips. Indeed, he was one of the first artists who dared to create videos getting off the beaten track, where he appeared with innovative and colored hair and clothes transformations, illustrating its very particular music. This folk rocker who touches a whole generation impressed people with his charisma, presence and his heterogeneous universe.

    He started in 1962 by joining the group “ Konrads “ and adopted the haircut “ mods” in harmony with the modernist tendency in the fifties in Great Britain. He had his real name David Robert Jones.

  • It was with Space Oddity that he launched his solo career in 1967 when we can find David Bowie with a hippie look with curls and a right fringe. In the seventies, the artist played with an effeminate look with long hair an asymmetric fringe. He was dressed like a woman in his album « The man who sold the world», the artist was trying to find himself…

    It was with the role of Ziggy Stardust that Bowie marked a turning point in his career, making the link between his eccentric songs and the image he wanted to transmit. He embodied an alien icon with red hair and an androgynous haircut on the top of the head. His makeup and his walleye eyes finished to complete his galactic look referring to the title « Life on Mars ».

    He improved his lunar look with his character Aladdin Sane in 1973. This is definitely the most famous image of David Bowie nowadays. The hair were auburn with ginger highlights and a kind of red and blue lightning crosses his face. Bowie wanted to embody a mad man “ A lad insane “.

    In 1974, the artist modernized his character with a punk haircut with dazzling colors, an eye hidden by a black eye patch, all of that to embody a punk pirate : Halloween Jack was born !

    In the eighties, he embodied Pierrot on the cover of his album and in one of his key video clips : “ Ashes to ashes” . This sad clown was in perfect harmony with the song and had just signed the end of his “ avatars”.  His hair were then short and brown, his natural haircolor.

    The years 2000 showed a more serene artist, with a less surprising hair look, mid-length hair with dark brown tones. Until the end of his career, David Bowie didn’t use any protagonists anymore being just himself. This great artist, during his career, played many roles changing looks while reinventing his music always in harmony with his desires.
