Estelle Champourlier : An amazing champion !

Livecoiffure : you only are 24 and you're already a multi-champion - France, Europe and over the world - this is an impressive career. But what pushed you to enter in the hairdressing world ?
Estelle Champourlier : This always has been a passion ! When I was a little girl, I already knew that I wanted to do that. Contrary to other hairdressers who already have family or closed person in that field, I decided alone to enter in that world. I knew that I wanted to do that since the beginning and I fought for that ! At school, I was told to change career, that hairdressing wasn't for me but I've always wanted to do that job and I finally did it.

Livecoiffure : Under the wing of Mario du Lavandou- Ciseaux d’or in Brussels- what did he teach you ?
Estelle Champourlier : Yes, Mario assisted me, he is a great guy ! He was a real mentor for me. He encouraged me to keep going that way. In fact, I met him at school during my evening classes. I would have classes to improve myself with other young persons of my age.
When Mario saw what I could do, he pushed me to participate to competitions and to surpass myself. He taught me perseverance but also the basis like male haircuts that I did in competitions and was very impressed by my chignons.

Livecoiffure : About competitions, what do you feel when you think about your current career ?
Estelle Champourlier : Pride ! I succeeded in obtaining what I wanted when I was 15. I moved from nothing to the French team, I did that between my 17 and 22 years old then I obtained these medals… People always tell me they are impressed by my career and it's good to hear it ! I'm really happy because I worked hard to meet my goals.
I have a very good memory of my first European championship, that was the first time I received an award, the emotion was intense ! One of my favourite competitions was during the Olympiade des métiers (profession Olympiad) where you can meet very different persons. Because being part of a team with persons with different skills is very enriching ! The selection is hard and they choose the best ones in 42 professions at departmental regional and national level ! We do the best wen can, it's like the hairdressing Olympics!

Livecoiffure : After having stopped these competitions, you opened a hairdressing salon Peerless in Toulon, can you tell us more about it ?
Estelle Champourlier : I opened my salon three years ago, I would say it is chic and cozy, welcoming nothing to do with the cold salons you can sometimes find. My clients vary a lot from 20 to 80 years. It's generally thanks to word of mouth I can see new faces !
Most of my clients are very faithful and come back in my salon, that warms my heart ! There a lot of women who choose my salons for wedding hairstyle. They are generally very demanding but when they obtain what they want, these clients don't hesitate to come back for a haircut or a hair color.
Sometimes, they ask me noticing my medals « But your husband participate to competitions ? » and I reply smiling that these are mine and I tell them how I won them, the clients like that. I also have a chignon bar during the weekend.

Livecoiffure : Explain the concept of "chignon bar"?
Estelle Champourlier : For me, the chignon bar is essential in my salon, this is my specialty ! This is so beautiful, chic and elegant… This is one of my favorite hairstyles because you can work a lot on it and you can obtain a very glam, subtitle and sexy result !
The principle of the chignon bar is simple: this is a quick beauty preparation. I can do any kind of hairstyles with loose hair, classical or French twist … The duration of the hairstyle varies between 10 and 20 minutes for 40 to 60 Euros. The chignon bar is opened on Friday and Saturday from 18h to 22h, perfect to be beautiful before going out during the weekend.

Livecoiffure : What are your project for 2015 ?
Estelle Champourlier : My first objective would be having clients in Monaco by opening another salon. A part of my family lives there and I would like to be closer to them. Furthermore, women there always take care of their image, this is a real fashion show in the streets !
They often wear very chic clothes with chignons. Most of the Monacan women like going out ! The client is just perfect for what I can do best ! And why not trying to style the princely family ? One should always aiming high, if it works great if not never mind !
